Lima Emblem untuk...

Kejutan!

1. The winner may put the logo on her / his blog (yg "his"nya ditambahin sama Harley. stuju! :D)
2. Put a link to the person you got the award from
3. Nominate 5 blogs
4. Put links to the blogs
5. Leave a message for your nominees.award

ERICBANDUNG
Orang ini 'ngaco' deh (in the most positive sense of the word).

Liat2 aja album fotonya!

PINODITA

Saya yakin lama2 akan kesebut semua kontak kalo diterusin.. hihi.. jadi.. let's just roll the ball and pin the next awardees down!

My DNA says...

A rainy afternoon's activity, brought to me via Rizli (thanks!): Personal DNA Mapping.
My DNA test result says that I'm an animated inventor(!) For details please see here.

you are an inventor
  • Your imagination, self-reliance, openness to new things, and appreciation for utility combine to make you an INVENTOR.
  • You have the confidence to make your visions into reality, and you are willing to consider many alternatives to get that done.
  • The full spectrum of possibilities in the world intrigues you—you're not limited by pre-conceived notions of how things should be.
  • Problem-solving is a specialty of yours, owing to your persistence, curiosity, and understanding of how things work.
  • Your vision allows you to identify what's missing from a given situation, and your creativity allows you to fill in the gaps.Your awareness of how things function gives you the ability to come up with new uses for common objects.
  • It is more interesting for you to pursue excitement than it is to get caught up in a routine.
  • Although understanding details is not difficult for you, you specialize in seeing the bigger picture and don't get caught up in specifics.
  • You tend to more proactive than reactive—you don't just wait for things to come to you.
  • You do your own thing when it comes to clothing, guided more by practical concerns than by other people's notions of style. The control you feel over your life is empowering to you-- you believe in your abilities and acknowledge your shortcomings. Explanations of the world that focus on destiny or fate don't really interest you. You take responsibility for what goes wrong in your life, and also for what goes well.
if you want to be different:
Try applying your creativity to more artistic arenas, and letting your imagination take less practical forms.

you are animated
  • You are outgoing, comfortable with others, and up for anything, which makes you ANIMATED.
  • Some people find crowds and parties exhausting, but not you! You are able to be yourself in many situations.
  • Sometimes it is hard for you to understand why others feel the way they do, but that doesn't stop you from trusting them or having faith that they are good people.
  • You know the world is complicated and that there is often more than one side to a story, so you are careful not to make judgments about others too hastily.
  • You would rather experience the world than sit back and observe it—you are not one to sit on the sidelines. You are an independent thinker and don't get too worried about how others might perceive you—you are not self-conscious about being the active, engaged person that you are.
  • Although you have a keen understanding of different people's life circumstances, you occasionally have trouble seeing why people get so upset and emotional about things—they should just lighten up and have fun!
  • In addition to having faith in the world, you have faith in the people around you—you trust others to do the right thing and to be honest.

if you want to be different:
  • Remember that time alone can be just as fulfilling as time spent with others—take some time for yourself and you might find that there are many things in your inner world that are just as compelling as the world outside your window.
  • Your open-mindedness about the ways of world gives you an understanding of people's differences, but that knowledge doesn't always translate into sympathy. Don't be afraid to let your trust and understanding influence your feelings.

I 'ate the dog!

..said Groundskeeper Willie, "I 'ate his guts! I 'ate everything about him!" when Bart asked him if he's seen Santa's Little Helper in The Canine Mutiny episode. That line is among The Simpsons' quotations that has become one of our household's catchphrases, which we always use in appropriate situations. Or whenever we hear something that might associate with the line. Such was what I automatically thought of, when four Multiply contacts of mine nudged me to list 8 random things about me. See? 8, eight, ate! Ha!

Bookshop has delivered a bright idea of adding three into our five items that we submitted previously; an idea that I apply here as well. My five random things can be viewed here (that entry apparently contains other stuff, too - so there's an extra for you guys :P), and here are three more:

6. Same as my distant cousin Yikk, I hardly ever had any make up on my face. Occasional events were only during traditional (Balinese) dance performance (when I was veerrrry young) and traditional wedding ceremonies.

7. I got a notion to be a 'comic books snob'. Meaning, I do buy comic books only based on reviews from people I trust, or on my personal taste (which proves to be, um, expensive). I buy comic books which I can appreciate highly both the graphics and the stories. And I don't buy comics due to mere patriotic or solidarity reasons, for I am not that kind of collector. Wanna check my comics library? Please do.

8. I always have the questions of, "Why would you be my contact? What do you expect of me? Who are you and how did you get this address?" everytime random people post their requests to be my contact. Then I reject them without thinking twice, especially those with empty profiles. Multiply's offer to maintain a "meaningful relationship" really fits my principle in this social networking activity.

Let's see.. any free soul who isn't tagged yet? Very few, I suppose. Let's try Ave (a good distraction between works, toch? :D), Anin (open up, Bud, I know where you are!), Cindih (can't wait for your expressive writing!), LiTa (can't believe nobody's tagged you!) and Tiyas (find a warnet, quick!). Ack! There should be eight! Alright, three more people: Peter (you're not shy are you), Nunu (surprise us), Ayie (what more can I say.. you're it!)

Here's the obligatory part:

Tagging rules:

1. each blogger must post these rules.

2. each blogger starts with 8 random facts/habits about themselves.

3. bloggers that are tagged need to write in their own blogs about their 8 things and post this rule. At the end of your blog you need to choose 8 people to get tagged and list their names.

4. do not forget to leave them a comment telling them they have been tagged to read your blog.

Five things you don't know about me (..yet)

Started by Tita, it's my turn now to note these things down.

1. Similar to Venny, I'm the kind of person who won't say anything until am spoken to. In big social functions, I mostly nod and smile, while trying to look occupied by other things such as drawing or reading - as far as courtesy permits.

2. I only had one traffic accident in my life. I was about 10, cycling home from school. At an intersection, when I was crossing, a Toyota Kijang 'pick up' hit me. Not hard, but enough to make me fall off my bike. I didn't feel pain and didn't say anything. The Kijang people (two men) asked me questions and maybe offered to take me home. The scene started to attract onlookers, which only made me more confused. I suddenly pulled up my bike (which wasn't harmed) and sped home, leaving the ring of crowds.
I didn't say anything to anyone about the accident when I got home, but my mother soon noticed a big wound on my left knee. She had to fish out the story from me with difficulties, for I wanted to do was sleeping and forgetting the whole thing (didn't succeed here, did I?).

3. I was a grumpy teenager - well, maybe up to my early 20s, when people thought I was fierce. For instance, I used to be made into the head of girls' 'security section' for an 'orientation period' (for first year students), whose job is mainly to 'discipline' the newcomers.

4. The clubs I joined during my senior high school and university years? I wasn't good at any of them. In the basketball club, I have always been a spare part - not the 6th player but perhaps the 13th or 14th. In the Balinese culture club, I know I can't dance as graceful or as supple as my peers. But nevermind; I've always enjoyed the company and the teamwork.

5. I used to be afraid of my brother. Maybe I still am, on a different level. I still find it difficult to be opiniated, or to speak up my mind freely, partly due to this fact. I think.

It's about one hour approaching 2007 now - shall I continue with a resolution thing as asked by Peter? :)

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Counting my blessings in 2006:
  • I got to go to concerts: Sparks and Strips in Stereo. This kind of things has become a luxury for me since our first child was born, because it's not easy to find a day/night off with these kids around. Then, I got to watch Mirrormask at the opening of Amsterdam Fantastic Film Festival (this one is not played in mainstream movie theatres) in one of those 'free' nights of mine.
  • Even more of a novelty: I got to travel by myself to Barcelona! I was invited to give a lecture at the Polytechnic University of Catalunya and stayed there for 2 nights. The lecture itself went for about two hours; the rest was for fun. Once in a while I could really use this kind of selfishness.
  • My family visited us! My father came and spent a couple of days during his trip to Germany and Qatar. My mother and my cousin Chica and her daughter Luna came in summer for a couple of weeks. Those were some memorable moments!
  • It's the final year of my doctoral study. I finally finished my dissertation. Aside from that, I managed to have some of my drawings published as a part of three different books.
  • Sybrand resigned from his two jobs due to our moving plan to Indonesia. His former colleagues held a farewell party especially for us. That was a touching moment, realizing that all those people came only to greet us and wish us a good life in the future.
  • Dhanu and Lindri are growing healthy and happy.

Resolution for 2007:
  • Settle down in Bandung - not only the staying permit of Sybrand and the kids, but also my employment status and such. Start working as much as possible; especially getting used to the university life in Bandung again (it is different from Delft).
  • Get Dhanu and Lindri their dual citizenship rights. Get Sybrand his proper staying permit (temporary stay visa), which is valid for one year.
  • Get Dhanu (and perhaps Lindri) into a decent and affordable (pre)school. I'm honestly still clueless about this, but hopefully can get to know more once we visit the possible options in Bandung.
  • Start building our house on 'the land', using the sustainable housing concept and guideline of my dissertation. Start developing a village- or household-scale waste management system to produce compost or fertilizer. Grow herb or fruit orchard on our land.
  • Keep drawing. Get a good Internet connection and keep blogging.
  • Keep cycling from home to work, like I used to when I was still a student.
  • Back to the habit of swimming everyday. If it's not possible, then at least 2-3 times a week, at Sabuga swimming pool.
This will surely be a busy year.

This creeps me out, a bit..

You are the World

Completion, Good Reward.

The World is the final card of the Major Arcana, and as such represents saturnian energies, time, and completion.

The World card pictures a dancer in a Yoni (sometimes made of laurel leaves). The Yoni symbolizes the great Mother, the cervix through which everything is born, and also the doorway to the next life after death. It is indicative of a complete circle. Everything is finally coming together, successfully and at last. You will get that Ph.D. you've been working for years to complete, graduate at long last, marry after a long engagement, or finish that huge project. This card is not for little ends, but for big ones, important ones, ones that come with well earned cheers and acknowledgements. Your hard work, knowledge, wisdom, patience, etc, will absolutely pay-off; you've done everything right.

What Tarot Card are You?
Take the Test to Find Out.

Inside my Nomad (an old story)

I hope the backpack at the background is visible

This album is connected to this journal. I finally got all the films in my old pocket camera used, had them processed, printed and scanned.

Revealing the contents of my Nomad

Thanks to Chica, I also get my turn to reveal the contents of my bag. I have no daily (hand)bag - everytime I go out I only bring my wallet (in my trousers' pocket) and an empty backpack (to be filled with, usually, groceries). So what I show you here is my Nomad backpack, which I bought in 1998 in Eindhoven and is still very much a reliable container for my stuff. Moreover, it has a 'rain hood' underneath, which I can unfold to cover the whole surface and save my books and papers.

As at the moment I have no access to a decent digicam, I poured out and drew all (honest!) my Nomad's contents. Here's the first compartment:

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
- A bottle of water is essential; never leave home without it in this dry-aired country. That's a 50cl SPA blue bottle (the non-bubble variation, I just refill it with tap water everytime it's empty).
- A roll of rainpants. In this rainy weather, having no rainpants during cycling in the rain can lead to a great discomfort as your trousers will get soaked wet.
- A tupperware for my lunch yesterday, previously wrapped in a plastic bag. Food at school's canteen can be quite boring so I brought rice and beef in black pepper sauce from home.
- A note book, almost full.
- A guideline of Doctorate Graduation; I took care of the protocolaire stuff yesterday.
- An A5-sized Belgian comics magazine, PARCIFAL.
- A fold of DELTA, weekly newspaper published by TU Delft.
- A new comics magazine, MYX, which is a perfect read in a one-hour train ride.
- A milk-white transparant folder for my important papers.
- My A5-sized sketchbook diary, black hard cover.

The second compartment is unsurprisingly dirty of crumbs. After drawing the contents, I finally threw away the garbage.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
- Paper napkins and pieces of receipts (got thrown rightaway)
- A container of "Heinz barbeque sauce" and a sachet of "Heinz mayonnaise", a coupon for a free soft ice cream at Burger King (still valid until the end of this month) and an empty paper container of McDonald's fries (I keep it to use in my diary, later)
- Two unopened toys (from either McD or BK, which was forgotten by the kids who asked for them)
- A tube of Pritt glue
- Three permanent black markers
- A Nomad pencil case that originally came with the bag, so it has a velcro line at the back side, to be attached to the base of the compartment. Very handy.
- My wallet, bought in 1994 and is still very sturdy.

The third compartment, or the front pocket, is even worse than the second one.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
- Things that got thrown or put somewhere else rightaway: three sachets of sugar, one sachet of mustard, one small plastic spoon and an unopened pack of 'telescopic' chopsticks (they came with a sushi package from Albert Heijn supermarket).
- Two 'strippenkart' (still valid, for bus/tram/metro in the whole Netherlands), another voucher for soft ice cream at Burger King, and a discount voucher for Albert Heijn's wrap-to-go (expired: got thrown, too).
- Two gelpens and two gelpen refills.
- A pack of tissue
- A pack of Aquafresh pastilles
- Keys: my Delft bike keys, my Delft office keys and my Amsterdam (home & bicycle) keys.

So there. You'll have to wait (quite long) for the photos, but at least now you know how messy I am. Are we still friends? :)

Behold!

Archangel is coming!

Why am I doing this? I'm not even too keen on Marvel! And I suppose to finish my manuscript before Wednesday! Oh well, fighting Evil doesn't take too much of my time, I guess..
Anyway, here's where you should go to find out which Marvel superhero you are.

Now. Back to work. I mean to the computer desk, not the dark blue sky..

Cuma boleh enam ya?

Padahal ya, gue udah usaha nggak buka blog Lita begitu baca judulnya, eh tapi kena juga gara-gara si Chica ngebocorin di chatroom! Hahaha! Ya sutra, Sabtu sore2 gini sambil nunggu waktunya masak, kubeberkan enam hal berikut (yg menurut gue biasa aja tapi mungkin menurut orang lain aneh)..

Dulu waktu SMA sih udah sempet nyetir dan punya SIM (sala bim), tapi sejak masuk kuliah - hingga sekarang - belum nyentuh2 setir mobil lagi. "Private cars are overrated", kata profile gue di MP dan FS.. heheheh..

3. Suka ngumpulin komik2 yg tema dan ceritanya rada2 'twisted', yg bukan mainstream, yg rada2 'alternatif'. Contoh: terbitan DarkHorse seri "Book of.. " (The Dead, Witchcraft, Hauntings), majalah Heavy Metal (ini mah minjem aja.. hahaha), karya2 Dave Cooper (Weasel, misalkan), dan karya2 duet Kazuo Koike - Goseki Kojima. Hampir semua komik itu ditandai stiker "Adult Contents" Do I - unconsciously - actually possess a twisted mind? Who knows, people, who knows..

4. Susah menolak, susah bilang "nggak".

6. Udah tua genee.. tetep aja belom betah pake lipstick. Sejak bayi sampe sekarang, gue pake lipstick hanya kalo pas pake baju adat Jawa atau - duluu banget - saben pentas tari Bali.

- MakDemplon (punteeen hahaha)
- Lady Day(euh).. udah kena belom teh?
- Modjo (halo rekan sekota, mari kita beberkan semuanya! :D)
- Alex (now it's your chance to establish your freak titles!)

BONUS! Permintaan khusus utk Tenik supaya juga membuat daftarnya! Asik asik..

How Many Planets Do We Need?

I came across the Ecological Footprint Quiz during my search for references about environmental impacts caused by our (= human beings) domestic behavior. Concerning this matter, How Lightly Do You Tread Upon This Earth? is perhaps among the easiest articles to comprehend.

I thought I’ve been leading a quite modest lifestyle: I always try to buy seasonal veggies, local fruits and free-range meat and eggs. I’ve been using clean water carefully, saving electricity and separating household waste. I choose bicycle and public transport over private cars and I’m not too fond of owning excessive furniture, gadgets and gimmicks. However, the Ecological Footprint Quiz, which I did twice based on the two scenarios of living in The Netherlands and Indonesia, shows the same result: if everybody in the world is living with my lifestyle, we will need more than two planets to support us.

Of course the result of this quiz is not absolute, since it is not possible to include details (in/direct resources, personal values, etc.) and occasional happenings. But it is a nice way to illustrate how ‘expensive’ I am; it can help me reflecting upon how I should go on with living, without making the world a worse place for my children.

This quiz furthermore offers small steps for those who intend to reduce their footprints. Big changes come from small ones, indeed, and it should start from ourselves. Go ahead, take the quiz if you want to see how big your ecological footprints are on our one and only Mother Earth.

1. Original Sin (The Shadow) - Taylor Dane
Dengerin malem2 pas sepi, pasti makin kerasa hawa original sin-nya.. hahaha..

2. (Baby Baby) Can I Invade Your Country? - Sparks
Lirik lagu ini rada2 parodi dari lagu kebangsaan Amerika, lagunya sendiri spt utk long march. Sparks termasuk daftar CD wajib utk malem2, sebab gaya lagu mereka beda2 setiap saat, selalu kocak - entah satir entah memang melucu, tapi semuanya menyegarkan.

3. Pertama - Reza
Lagu Indonesia terseksi. Nevermind the videoclip; her voice has the correct tone of huskiness for this song.

4. The Bells of Notre Dame (OST)
Sedikit nada gregorian-gothic utk tengah malam memang pas, tapi nggak mau yg terlalu serem.. haha.. OST Disney aja deh jadinya (OST Dracula sih serem benerannn)

5. Arjuna - Dewa
Asik nih. Sampe ditengok tamu2 resto yg lain, dikiranya kita udah kebanyakan ngebir..

6. Sex Bomb - Tom Jones & Mousse T.
Yg gue punya adalah versi cethak-cedhuk nya.

7. Negeri di Awan - Katon Bagaskara
Pas pertama kali denger ini dinyanyiin Katon, serasa udah kenal duluan ama lagunya. Ternyata bener, lagu ini pernah dinyanyiin anak2 koor SMP Sang Timur (almamaterku), sebab Pak Andre (kakaknya Katon yg bikin lagu ini) dulu ngajar musik di situ (sekarang masih nggak ya?)

Berhubung Chica ama Tiyas udah ditunjuk sama Bertie, orang2 berikut ini yg dapet giliran:
1. Mang Ipan (rasain lu, dulu ngejebak gue duluan)
2. Aki Otul (pasti si aki males deh.. pengennya bikin muka penyok :P)
3. Papih Oyik (show me what you got!)
4. Non Sandralex (woohoo.. ditunggu daftar kerennya!)
5. Teteh Mer (ya teh ya? ya? :D)
6. Pepentong (sekali2 ikutan pesan berantai lagi Pen.. hehe)
7. Sintul (ayo ayoo didaftaar)

Dissertation Desk

I've seen many postings here that shows working tables, at home, studio or office. Allright people, you've shown yours so I'll show you mine. It is, of course, not as neat as Tika's thesis station or as organized as Tenik's working place, but this photo was made at its most bearable situation. Meaning, you can see only one toy there (the orange capsule), while usually Lindri came over to stack her books and more toys (pieces of a puzzle, wooden dominoes, magnetic drawing board, etc.) next to my keyboard. Not that I need her to create the mess; I can do the messing job perfectly by myself, by stacking books, papers, folders and what-nots on the scanner and printer.

I'm mostly using my old iMac, while Syb uses the iBook (you can see a small bit of it, facing the iMac) everytime he has to bring home his work. On my left is a scanner: old and worrysome, but useful. Next to it is a pack of proceedings from a bamboo conference that I refer to a lot. The headphone is necessary, considering the space at my far left is a living room (also TV and the kids' 'playground'). There's a printer on my rightside, just adequate for printing drafts. When the curtain is pushed aside, the window will show a scenery of an apartment block from the 3rd floor.
Oh, and Stitch has always been on top of the iMac since it came to live with us.

Rahasia Apa?

kecil yg nggak diketahui orang lain. Untuk di jurnal sendiri nggapapa,
lah..

temen, tentunya). Lalu sekolah di Belanda, sampai sekarang, full
nyepeda dan pakai kendaraan umum. SIM punya sih, bikin di Bali bareng2 Chica dulu, tapi nggak kepake sama sekali.. hehe..

3. Kalo si Ipan dijuluki "Ndoro Croboh" jaman kuliah dulu, gue dapet
julukan "Ratu Dempul". Habis, saben bikin model pasti finishing-nya
ngedempul melulu, berhubung modelnya pasti berantakan! Hahaha! Inget
komentar Andry Masri yg wkt itu ngasisteni workshop teknik presentasi,
"Elu cewek sendiri tapi kerjanya paling jorok!". Duh, asli gue nggak
bangga. Makanya selanjutnya, saben bikin model, gue pake teknik
stiker-nya Ozziatski, dijamin mulus!

4. Gue waktu SMP dulu punya geng juga dong. Anggotanya delapan: gue,
Rina, Tiur, Laura, Riska, Sandra, Herni, Imelda (sesuai nomor urut
anggota.. hihihihi). Nama gengnya? Dolphin (jangan ketawa!)

5. Masih jaman SMP dan awal2 SMA, gue sempet kesuwat2 sama Dolph
Lundgren gara2 film The Punisher (nista nista deh), sampe gue bikin
gambar potretnya, gue laminasi buat pembatas agenda sekolah (Masih ada
lho sampe sekarang! Mau liat? Berhenti ketawa dulu!)

BTW, menggambar potret selebriti adalah mata pencaharian gue yg pertama
kali (habis kita emang nggak pernah dikasih uang jajan), sejak jaman
SMP.. hehe..

Asik, kalo gitu gue pengen liat punya:

1. Chicaluna

2. Bookshop

3. Uprit

4. Nuragni29

5. Bataviarose

..dan yg lain-lain! :D
