Bandung Public Furniture, 4-31 August 2008

This morning our Bandung Public Furniture event, a part of Helar Festival, was opened at Dago Plaza, presenting works of industrial design students, alumnis and lecturers. I must say that the product line-up is not quite final, for some more furniture are yet to be completed. However, what we have now is fairly substantial. We have Saifudin's set of plant-box-bench, Heidi's grass-box-seats, Amalia's umbrella shelters, Ihsan's chickseats, and my "Mangap" trashbins (see photos). The variations are really refreshing; just check out an array of shapes and materials: ferrocement, vinyl cloth, plastic and live grass on steel wire frames, real umbrellas and even plastic cloth hangers! More photos from the opening day can be seen at http://helarfest.com/photos-from-bandung-public-furniture-opening.htm

The opening was initiated by a throwing of a garbage (a used paper coffee cup) into a Mangap Panda that was placed on the stage, by a government official (from the office of tourism). The event was attended by other offices as well (city planning, parks and sanitary, etc.), students and friends, including boards of BCCF (Bandung Creative City Forum). Thanks a lot, people! Hope some of these creative furniture can be developed and mass-produced for our Bandung city!

Bandung Public Furniture locations:

  1. Wah, hebat!! A good start!
