Indonesia HWC Team

A sketch I made for the purpose of fund raising for the Indonesian Homeless World Cup team. My notes about the event are here https://o2indonesia.wordpress.com/2012/08/10/melalui-bola-kami-hidup/ and here https://o2indonesia.wordpress.com/2012/10/15/greater-than-trophies/

Local Fruits

This sketch was made for a friend, a researcher at the School of Bio-Technology ITB, who was organizing a seminar about local fruits industry, research and development. This sketch was then printed on T-shirts, tote bags and framed as mini posters as souvenirs for that event.

Shaun Tan's arts make me want to create creatures such as this. Check out his works, they're beyond amazing!

"Gaiman" is less sensible, compared to "Pamuk"

This blog was originally posted on January 16, 2009, but somehow wasn't included when I migrated my esduren.multiply.com to titalarasati.blogspot.com. So here goes, below, complete & unabridged.
Oh- and this is the post that actually 'introduced' me to Twitter, thanks to a comment (copied below). And so the snowball rolled on...

===========

At least, that's the case in the "specialties" list of Reading Light's menu. A Neil Gaiman coffee is "ice black coffee, fresh milk, peanut butter, hazelnut syrup, cinnamon & cold froth" while an Orhan Pamuk is "hot cappuccino with a special mix of kapulaga (Amomum cardamomum), clove & cinnamon". I've had a curiosity since I first read the menu and finally had the chance to taste that weird Gaiman today. Just as I thought: imagine drinking a peanut-butter sandwich that was soaked in cold coffee, crushed ice and liquid sugar. Even David Sedaris seemed like a more tempting option, however childish it may sound ("orange juice, lemon juice, fresh milk & vanilla ice cream").

Moving on to our dish: I had chicken sandwich, which was quite decent. Other than the usual diced, boiled chicken slathered in mayonaise, this one came filled with layers of 'chicken bologna' of some sorts. Yummy. However, next time, I would ask them to skip the chili sauce.

And what about our book-shopping spree for today? I've scored two hard cover Alice in Wonderland books, both published by Random House in 1946! I really like the illustration technique and appearance; Syb said it could even be hand-colored (I'll post a review as soon as time permits...). Syb did the rest of the rummaging and found several other books to his content, while I continued working on my papers with my MacBook. We happily skimming our books while enjoying our lunch in that cool place, unwinding before our next tasks called.

Our afternoon jaunt ended quite pleasantly. We got book discount from using a card (instead of cash) to pay, and food discount from having a membership card (and there's actually a complimentary drink, too, for members). The shop attendant informed us that they'll have a treat on the occasion of the Chinese New Year: there will be a bonus (an ang pau, she said) for every purchase of book about (or related to) China. Shall we go again in two weeks, then, and see what the ang pau is? :)

More photos can be viewed in an album with the same title.

The Neil Gaiman coffee sounds like it would be delicious if it was hot, but cold? Weird. I tried peanut butter in coffee myself a while ago and it was actually pretty tasty.
P.S. Do you know that Neil Gaiman himself linked here in his Twitter? (!)

me:
I agree! I asked for a hot version, but they couldn't provide that :|
I didn't know about his Twitter, but I just saw the post at his blog(!) :">

Migration

Yesterday I finally migrated the contents of my Multiply, except the photos, to this Blogspot account. I'll soon terminate the MP account, after selecting the photos. Those years at MP weren't nothing; I was living in Amsterdam during those years, so that's where I got in touch with faraway families and friends. It was also the main display for my graphic diary, long before I knew it could become a new comics genre in Indonesia. I'm grateful for all the good times, the memories, and all other sentimental reasons - which you can tell from my old MP posts here :)

Tentang 24 Hour Comics Day

SEVEN: Draw Your Days! 2011

It's that time of the year again! We've had SEVEN: Draw Your Days! in 2009 and 2010, so let's have another one this year! Trust me, it's a good distraction from clicking and tapping on your gadgets all day :)

Here's a bit of history

SEVEN: Draw Your Days! is an event to celebrate the anniversary of CAB, so we do it each year on the same dates, always starts on November 7th. Our first event was in 2009, when we also launched our website. We also printed and exhibited a lot of participants' drawings at Galeri Soemardja, FSRD ITB, while having a talk session. The result was indeed pleasantly surprising. The works that were produced day-by-day came in different medias: drawings, comics, photographs, even collages and poems, which came not only from Indonesia but also from the United States and The Netherlands.
2010 brought similarly surprising results, and also coming from many parts of the world, including Kuwait and Malaysia. Friends who are spending most of their time typing and clicking admitted that they found relief upon returning to their pens and pencils. Friends who are used to creating fantasy and fictional stories found it a refreshing change to recreate their own experiences in drawings and graphics. Among the most interesting things is, although we knew that the same week can be entirely different for everyone, we didn't really 'realize' it until we saw the reflections of it, as expressed by different individuals.
It's 2011 now and CAB is going to have its 3rd anniversary, where you're all invited again to draw your days! Let's go! :)

==========

WHAT IS "SEVEN"?
An event held by CAB, a publisher who concentrates on graphic diary, where everyone can participate. It's where everyone can draw his or her days, one page each day, for seven consecutive days.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
Basically anyone. You don't have to be an artist or someone who's good at drawing. As long as you are eager to tell your stories in drawings and graphics, you're in!

IS THERE ANY THEME?
The drawings can be day-to-day happenings during the week, dreams, desires, or whatever comes to mind when your pen hits the paper (or the tablet).

WHEN?
All participants are to start their drawings on Nov 7. One page for one day, until Nov 13. In total, everyone will have 7 pages of drawings.

WHERE?
All works will be displayed online, so there's no 'real' place. But you are most welcome to arrange the event in your own communities or cities.

HOW?
If you'd like to participate, you are encouraged to upload your drawings on your own Blogs, which will be linked to CAB website, or put your own link at the SEVEN 2011 event page on Facebook Alternately, you can also send your drawings to CAB [email drawyourdays@gmail.com], to be uploaded on CAB website.
